Transmission controllers from the factory are locked down and require extensive reverse engineering to tune and even get access to certain features. Bypassing the middle man and directly controlling the transmission is a huge benefit to swappers and racers.
Like we have seen in the past with the 6r100, the 4r200 hub greatly increased the hp holding strength by magnitutdes and could easily become one of the great transmissions cemented in stone like the th400 and 48re. However because the factory programming of the ford tcm the 4r200 is relegated to a 3 speed rather than a 4 speed like is possible. Why is this? its because this requires a shift from 6th gear to 4th and the factory pcm doesnt like to skip gears like that causing alot of problems.
We hope to in the future solve this issue with the 4r200 with our 10rl100 controller with a simple software update and wiring harness change but we have to get the 10 speed trans out the door first.
